When an infrared lamp goes out on your KTK oval or M&R ROQ, the last thing you want to do is spend your afternoon hacking away at a reflector or messing with the wiring just to make a new bulb fit. The nitty-gritty on fit and power Here is the thing: wattage isn’t the only number that matters. You’ve got to nail the voltage, the wattage, and—most importantly—the length. If a lamp is even a few millimeters off, it can put pressure on the quartz tube against the housing. That’s a recipe for a premature burnout. We build our spares to match those OEM KTK specs exactly so you aren’t fighting the hardware. Then there’s the power. If the voltage is too low, you’ll notice your cure times dragging and the heat just isn’t “dense” enough. But if you over-volt it? You’ll pop the filament instantly. It’s a delicate balance. Glass and plugs We use high-purity quartz glass because these things take a beating. They heat up and cool down fast, and that thermal shock can crack cheap glass. As for the connectors, we stick to the standard R7s or Sk15 pins. We keep them identical to the originals so you can just plug them in and go. No weird adapters required. If you’re using shortwave IR for those lightning-fast surface cures, just keep an eye on your power supply. These lamps hit peak temp almost the second you flip the switch, which creates a big initial spike in current. Make sure your circuitry can handle that hit. Swapping them out in the shop Installing these is pretty straightforward. Pull the old tube, give the contacts a quick check for any carbon buildup (which can cause hotspots), and slide the new one in. Done. One quick tip: be careful about jumping to a much higher wattage than what the KTK factory suggested. More heat means your cooling fans have to work overtime. If you push it too hard, you might wear out your fans faster or trip your thermal cut-offs. Keep an eye on the air temp around the machine, and you’ll be golden.
