The Real Deal on R7s Carbon Fiber Infrared Heaters
We decided to swap out the usual tungsten for carbon fiber filaments because we wanted to change how the heat actually hits your project. By tucking a carbon-based element inside a quartz envelope, the lamp pushes out medium-to-long wave infrared. Why does that matter? It means the heat sinks deeper into your materials. You get the warmth where you need it without accidentally scorching the surface.
Dealing with the R7s Interface
The R7s base is a simple, spring-loaded push-in connector. It’s a lifesaver. When a tube burns out, you just pop it out and put a new one in—no need to tear apart your entire chassis or mess with the wiring. Now, keep an eye on your voltage. Whether you’re running 220V or 400V, the wattage per millimeter changes. High-wattage tubes getintense. Here’s a pro tip: keep your reflectors polished and lined up perfectly. If they’re dirty or crooked, you’re basically just heating up the air in the room instead of your workpiece.
Speed and Heat
Carbon fiber is a beast when it comes to ramp-up time. These lamps get hot way faster than those old ceramic heaters. Plus, the quartz glass keeps the filament from oxidizing and dying early. We see these used a lot in PET blowing or on drying lines. It just gives you a much more even heat across the board.
The Trade-offs (Because nothing is perfect)
You’ll get your cycle times down, but there’s a catch. Carbon fiber is more fragile than tungsten. If your machinery vibrates a lot or takes a few mechanical hits, the filament can snap. Make sure those R7s ends are snug. And please, don’t ignore the safety side. These lamps put out a lot of IR radiation. Make sure your operator shields are rated for the right wavelength so your team isn’t dealing with eye strain or skin burns. One last thing: give the area some breathing room. Proper ventilation is a must, or you might find your socket housing melting under a heavy load.
