
Getting Your MHM Dryers Back to Factory Form
If you’re running MHM print heads, you already know that intermediate drying is where the magic happens. Get it right, and your layers stick perfectly. Get it wrong? You’re looking at ink bleed and a lot of wasted shirts. When it comes time to replace your lamps, don’t just look for something that “gets hot.” You need the same heat density and spectral output that the machine had the day it left the factory.
The Nerd Stuff (That Actually Matters)
We build our infrared replacements to mirror the exact wattage and voltage of MHM systems. Here’s the thing: if your machine is built for high-voltage shortwave heat and you slide in a lower-wattage bulb, you’re going to be waiting longer for that flash. That extra dwell time is exactly when ink starts to migrate and ruin a print. It’s a balancing act. Too little power and you’re under-curing. Too much, and you’re scorching the fabric. We focus on the power density per centimeter so you don’t have to guess.
Quartz, Coatings, and Connections
We use high-purity quartz glass to protect the tungsten filament. For MHM setups, we often add specific coatings to tweak the infrared spectrum. This lets the heat punch through the ink quickly without baking the garment itself. Then there are the connectors—usually R7s or SK15. They need to be a snug fit. If they’re loose, you get arc points. Those little sparks will eat your sockets alive. We keep our tolerances tight so you can just pop them in. No rewiring, no headaches.
Real Talk: Life on the Shop Floor
These lamps put out a massive amount of heat. You can’t just swap the bulb and walk away. Check your cooling fans. Make sure they’re clear of lint and dust. Double-check your timers. And for heaven’s sake, make sure your power supply is stable. High-wattage shortwave lamps are sensitive; if your mains are jumping around, those tubes will burn out way faster than they should. We build these to take a beating in a high-volume shop. As long as your voltage is steady and your reflectors are clean, you’ll get that same fast thermal ramp-up you’re used to with the original parts.
