
Let’s Talk About the 1800W Quartz Carbon Heating Tube

It’s a different approach, and it works.
Why the Power Matters
At 1800W, these things are punchy. The carbon filament is designed to ramp up fast. Really fast. You get that near-instant infrared warmth that doesn’t mess around with heating up the air first. It just radiates straight to you. Plus, because the heat is so concentrated, you can keep the heater small without losing any of the actual warming power.
The Secret Sauce: Quartz and Carbon
The quartz glass does two big jobs. First, it keeps oxygen away from the carbon filament—because if oxygen gets in, the filament burns out almost instantly. Second, it lets those infrared waves slide right through without blocking them. Here is the cool part: the carbon core doesn’t even need to get as hot as nichrome wire to be effective. It puts out long-wave infrared radiation, which is way better at warming up people and furniture rather than just blowing hot air around the room. **One quick warning:**Please, use gloves when you handle these. Your skin has natural oils on it, and if those get on the quartz, they create “hot spots.” When the tube heats up, those spots can cause the glass to crack. Not a good time.
Making it Work (and What to Watch For)
These tubes are pretty easy to swap into most standard heater frames. The wiring is simple enough, but do me a favor and double-check your thermostat’s switching capacity. 1800W pulls a lot of current. If your relay isn’t up for the task, you’ll start seeing pitting on the contacts, or the whole thing will just give up on you way too soon. And remember, quartz is fragile. It’s glass, after all. If your heater housing shakes too much or takes a few bumps, the tubes will snap. Just make sure your mounting clips hold them securely, but don’t squeeze them too tight. Give the glass some breathing room.
